Local Area Guide: Things to do / Activities / Attractions

Trinidad, California

Trinidad Head View of Town

Trinidad is a vacation destination that offers upscale dining, dazzling ocean views, tranquil beach exploration, outdoor adventure, unspoiled nature, and luxurious accommodations provided by Trinidad Bay Vacation Rentals.

We love Trinidad and all of its great places to go and things to do.  We have provided many links to some of our favorite spots.  Enjoy!

The Trinidad area is one of the most spectacular and pristine segments of the California coast. It has been established as a California Coastal National Monument Gateway - an area that offers the best shore-based opportunities to discover and view offshore rocks and islands and their inhabitants. Rocks off the coast of Trinidad support one of the most diverse seabird colonies in California with twelve species and over 100,000 breeding individuals. The two most important areas for seabirds are Green Rock and Flatiron Rock. These two rocks alone account for 25% of the most important seabird colonies along the California coast.

TRINIDAD ATTRACTIONS:
Hike the Trinidad Head
Trails here lead to one of the most spectacular views on the coast! This is a great place to watch sunsets or view whales, sea otters, seals and dolphins. You can also visit the Trinidad Head Lighthouse. Tours of the still active, 1871 Lighthouse are led by docents of the Trinidad Museum Society on the first Saturday of the month from 10 am – 12 pm. Park in the Trinidad State Beach parking area. Access the trail by hiking up the road or climbing the steps on the south end of the parking lot.  A granite cross commemorates the Spanish landing in 1775.

A memorial park for those lost or buried at sea is at the intersection of Trinity and Edwards Streets where special services by the Trinidad Civic Club are held every Memorial Day weekend. The Axel Lindgren, Jr. staircase trail provides access to Old Home Beach.  Enjoy great views of the coastline, harbor and pier.

This lighthouse, built in 1949, is a replica of the 1871 original. Located in Seascape Harbor, it is a monument to those lost or buried at sea and preserves the 1871 Fourth Order Fresnel Lens and the 1898 Fog Bell.

Go Tide Pooling
Old Home Beach, just south of the pier and north to Sue-Meg State Park is a great spot to see a magnificent diversity of intertidal lifeforms during low tides.
